Are We There Yet? Designing for Higher Order Learning Online

Higher order learning exists in a recursive relationship with higher order thinking, thinking “that is conceptually rich, coherently organized, and persistently exploratory.”

Higher education is undergoing significant change to realign outcomes to meet the needs of an information-based, global economy. In addition, changing characteristics and needs of students create a moving target in the consideration of what to do by way of realignment. “The focus of education is shifting to the development of critical thinking and self-directed learning abilities that can serve the individual over a lifetime.”
